Default iPhone SETI Signal

Joe Davis a researcher and artist at MIT has used an iPhone to send a radio signal into space using an iPhone connected to the great telescope at Arecibo.

What's the importance of the iPhone in this context? Couldn't he just have easily rigged up his EEE PC or his Palm PRE to do it?

Apple probably had something to do with it. Maybe a marketing thing? Or maybe they realise their quest for world domination is futile so they are targeting other planets?

No doubt he could have used other means of sending the signal. but he did choose to use an iPhone

I used an iPhone once. Couldn't really get to grips with the touch screen. (no pun intended). I have just ordered a new Blackberry for the wife - if I like it I might get myself one. I have an ordinary phone at the moment that doesn't do anything like emails or fancy schmancy stuff like that.
