We have upgraded some software on our Nairn server and it may cause some sites to produce errors like this


If you get this error please raise a support ticket and we ill fix the issue. The problem is caused by SuPHP which does not allow files to be writeable by group and is an easy fix.

The next update will be to PHP version 5.3.10 an this WILL break all sites that have not been updated to the latest version. So please update any scripts that are outdated as the new PHP will break your site.

The update to the latest PHP has been COMPLETED

We will be continuing the PHP updates all week to the latest 5.3 branch and if required SuPHP will also be added along with some other tweaks in light of the recent hack attempt's. It is the customers responsibility to make sure ALL scripts are up to date and we are not responsible if your sites stops to function.

So basically:

1. make sure your scripts are up to date
2. if you no longer use a script, delete it from server
3. contact forms are the most hacked scripts if you dont need it remove it
4. servers will be updated to 5.3.10 if your script has no updates to work with this branch then remove it

You can now update any scripts that were installed by Fantastico automatically from within Softaculous. When you login to Cpanel click the Softaculous auto installer icon, when this loads up choose the software you want to update and click the icon which will then guide you through the process.

Warning Ariotek will not be held responsible if the upgrade does not work or corrupts the site as it is not part of our software and is a third party app.

I have tested this on an old WordPress install and it worked well but you might not be so lucky.

Reminder of our Terms of Service re updating software:

“Network and System Security and Responsibilities
It is customer’s responsibility to protect the passwords and content related to their site. Customers using shared services must, at all times, keep ALL software and scripts used on the server relating to any part of their hosting activities up to date as per the software vendors instructions. Customers are prohibited to use or permit anyone to use our services to guess passwords or to access other systems or networks without our authorization.”

We have received a large increase in “hacked” WordPress and Joomla sites and this majorly affects our servers. Phishing sites have become a massive problem and Ariotek and the datacenter can no longer tolerate this. As a company we have to protect all our customers and for the 90% of customers that do keep their software updated we have no issue. The minority of customers that have old versions of this software or any other outdated software, we now have no alternative but to adhere strictly to our TOS.

With effect immediately, we ask that anyone with WordPress version less than 3 or Joomla version less than 1.5.24, please either delete or update. If your site is hacked then we will have no alternative but to suspend/terminate your account.

For WordPress version 3+ if your site is found to be hacked then your account will be suspended pending update of your software. If this is found to be hacked again because you haven’t updated your software then we will have no alternative but to terminate your account.

Again, I have to reiterate that my responsibility is for the protection of ALL our customers and I do not take this proposed action lightly but it has to happen for the good of all our customers.
