A few changes..
Feb 12, 2010 - 2:02 PM - by Drew
Just a quick message from us to let you know of a few changes we are making.

Firstly our 0800 number has changed. We are now using a switchboard system to give you the ability to choose which department you are connected to either sales/billing or tech support. Our new phone number is 0800 098 8804 and our new fax number is 0800 098 8599.

Secondly our billing system AWBS is now at the point where the bugs in it are outweighing the benefits. AWBS have no immediate plans to update their system to allow for the use of 3D secure when processing credit cards. Considering all credit card companies are heading down the 3D secure route this seems like business suicide to us so we are jumping from the ship before it sinks.

We have been testing a replacement billing system WHMCS for the past week and we are more than happy with the way it works. The flexibility and customisation of this new billing system is perfect for us as administrators and easier to navigate for you as customers. It also comes with many additional features and custom scripts that we can add and manipulate to provide additional services or to generally make life easier for all.

We plan on implementing this new billing system on Tuesday 16th of Feb 2010. We expect the transfer of all the accounts from AWBS to WHMCS to take the whole day on Tuesday. There will be no access to billing during this time so if you need anything paid urgently or need to make any purchases or domain updates just let us know by ticket and we will do it for you manually. All the old invoices from AWBS below invoice number 10000 will be archived to save us transferring all them across. If anyone needs access to an old invoice at any point in the future just let us know and we will get it for you.

Feel free to comment below...

New billing system now LIVE. Please report any bugs in this thread and we will fix them as we go along. Everyone will need to request a new password to log in

Change of Billing system
Feb 03, 2010 - 3:13 PM - by Drew
We are looking at moving our billing system away from AWBS.

AWBS have confirmed that they have no immediate plans to support the 3D secure payment protocol which is something that all credit card companies will be using for increased fraud prevention in the future.

We are trialing WHMCS at the moment as a direct replacement. AWBS can be imported directly into WHMCS at the click of a button so if we did go ahead with the move over the downtime for the billing accounts would be minimal ( would be done during the night anyway )

A demo of the WHMCS client area can be seen here .. WHMCS Demo - Portal Home feel free to have a play around with it and let us know your opinions on the client area or general thoughts

Oban downtime today
Feb 02, 2010 - 11:38 AM - by Colin
At 9.30 this morning I got notification from our site monitoring that Oban was down, after investigation I noticed that it had been suspended in the Rapidswitch portal. I the received an email at 9.34 that the server had been suspended for AUP violation, in easy terms one of the sites had a virus on it.

Now we get these all the time and we remove the virus and contact the customers WITHOUT shutting down their site. In fact I can count on one hand how many we have had to shut down because we could not contact the customer.

I was told by RS support that we had to remove the site even though we could not get to the server. It would have been an easy task just to unsuspend the server and terminate the actual account but oh no I had to order a KVMoIP and manually remove it which I ended up doing. This was only suggested AFTER I had no access to order the KVMoIP because the server was suspended.

All in all it was a mess that so easily could have been avoided and I apologise to all customers that have been affected by this. I am still waiting on RS management contacting me but this may be a long wait.

What should have happend was:
  1. Email to us telling us to remove offending site
  2. We remove site
  3. Notify that its been removed
That simple
